I came across this finding when I was having the customary 1 hour long conversation with another friend who is busy scouring articles all over the web preparing for his UPSC exam. As soon as he mentioned this, it got me super curious and I starting digging more this finding.

I started asking myself the following questions: what really is happiness ? What makes a person happy ?Why are some people more happier ? I really did not a definite answer. Since, it started getting too philosophical to my dumb mind, I tried to match this to all the factors I can think of:

  1. Desire : The more you desire for, the more trouble you get into. If my aim was to earn x amount of money and live a simple decent life, I would have been the most happiest person already !!! Most of the population in India is middle class or lower class who have a lot of desire to get out of their current economic strata.
  2. Achieving what you want : This is a little tricky. To achieve what you want, you need to lucky, get your timings right and also you should have done enough work. To achieve what you want , you need to clearly know what you want. To clearly know what you want, you need to have done enough research or at least get a minimum amount of guidance. Now let’s rule out luck just to make the requirements I mentioned above simpler. Now, to go for the right guidance or to do research , you need to have a blurry vision of what you want. You will have to rule out luck again that creates those situations and makes you cross the right people and gives you a rough idea of what you want. And,Here we go again!…this just keeps getting deeper and deeper with the same basic idea though. Given the population and the amount of randomness in a country like India…well..sigh…!
  3. Celebration : After going through all the hell caused by 1 and 2 , a lot of people do not celebrate their achievements. For example: from where I grew up , we were forced to act humble. You are basically curbing any natural instinct that makes you get super excited and jumpy about what you just accomplished.

So..do you think you are happy ? If so, did I miss anything here?
